What does the acronym aspx, in my IE browser stand for?

Posted on January 15th, 2010 by admin

And what does it do?

It’s a file extension. much like .html or .php or .xhtml etc.

ASP stands for Active Server Pages and is the name of web publishing framework by Microsoft. Much the same thing as PHP or ColdFusion. It is used to automatically generate web page content on the server and then send the output to your browser.

The X probably indicates that aspx is a new version of the old asp technology. ASPX uses microsoft’s .NET technology.
