Berkey Light Purity in Third World Conditions

Posted on April 13th, 2010 by admin

When my husband and I went to volunteer in Haiti after the earthquake, the Berkey Light was the best thhing we could have brought with us. The land was in ruins and there was no fresh drinking water and no electricity anywhere. We spent all our time in the field and hardly any of our time was spent with the Red Cross, the only electricity that could be found. The people were so grateful to have fresh drinking water that they stood in line for hours trying to be the next for a gallon of water to give to their families.

The Berkey Light was able to purify four gallons of water an hour so that we were able to help almost everyone within a reasonable amount of time. Even when it started getting dark, that didn’t stop us at all. The Berkey Light is called that because of it’s LED light base, it was able to give us enough light to to keep working well into the night. I was so glad that I was able to do something helpful for people that were truly in need. When I left Haiti, I left my Berkey there so that they could get the best possible use.
