Why won’t different browsers work on my computer?

Posted on December 16th, 2009 by admin

Normally I use Internet Explorer but I’ve wanted to switch to firefox for quite awhile now but I can’t get it to load on my computer for some reason. I’ve tried installing it twice but when I launch it nothing happens. I’ve tried safari and the same thing happens so is there something like blocking other browsers? The only thing I thought of was maybe my Norton Internet Security was blocking it somehow but I can’t find anything in the settings about anything like that. Please help if you can. Thanks!

reboot the pc before you install>?

How can i save the bookmarked pages from the browsers?

Posted on December 14th, 2009 by admin

I have to format the hard disk but i want to save all the bookmarked pages from my browsers ( iexplorer , firefox , chrome) .

How should i do it ? Plz tell me….

For IE : Click on File –> Import and Export. One wizard will pop-up. Say "Export Favorites" then it will ask you for the destination. Provide that and save the file by .html format. Next time when you Install OS again after formatting follow the same way and say "Import Favorites" and select the same file from the same location.

For Mozilla : Click on Bookmarks –> Organize Bookmarks. Here select the Bookmarks once. Then go to File –> Export and provide path to save them. Next time follow the same way and say Import when you want them back again.

For Chrome : There is no such way to export bookmarks. You can simply click on the last button which is present at the extreme right of the address bar and say "Import bookmarks and settings" from here you can select both IE and Mozilla one after another to import bookmarks which are present in them.

Enjoy,
Goldest

Is there a way to log in to a website with 2 accounts without switching browsers?

Posted on December 8th, 2009 by admin

It’s troublesome switching browsers, logging out and logging in again. Is there like a firefox addon or something that can make it easier?

I had to do that to help a friend fix their myspace site. I logged into my own account using Google Chrome, then I opened my Safari, deleted all cookies and temp pages, then logged in to my friends account. It worked then, it should still work.

I happen to have six browsers in my machine for web page programming, (to check cross browser support), and regardless of what others say, they do not conflict with each other nor does it slow down my machine.

If you have to do that more often, (be logged in twice), it may be to your advantage to download another browser. Look at this link, it has the basics about several different ones, you can decide what is best for you.

Is it better to install my internet browsers on my windows drive or my other drive?

Posted on December 4th, 2009 by admin

I know it probably makes not much difference but I’d like to know anyway. Would my internet browsers (i.e. Chrome & Firefox) run faster with windows running in the background if it was on a different drive or the same drive? and visa versa?

Almost all programs install some things (dll files, registry entries, etc.) to the Windows drive, whether you install the program to that drive or another one – so installing to another drive keeps the Windows drive from running out of space longer.

It has no effect on run speed, though – the program doesn’t run from the drive, it runs from RAM. Loading time may actually be a few milliseconds less if the program is on a different drive – less head thrashing – but you’ll never notice it.

what is a really REALLY heavy website to test browsers on?

Posted on November 29th, 2009 by admin

Im trying to test our real word ISP speed, between different browsers. What is a really heavy website that can give most browsers a real workout?

Be sure to test Shiretoko 3.5 – my favourite browser right now (faster than Chrome)

http://celtickane.com/labs/web-browser-javascript-benchmark/ tests the browsers well – but you shouldn’t be testing ‘real world ISP speed’ that way, just go to a ’speedtest’ website for that. It won’t be different between browsers, but Opera10 now has a feature that makes it faster when your bandwidth gets strangled.

In use, I find Opera10 is about the fastest – but I tend to use Firefox 3.5 the most (I started using it about two weeks ago – very fast, now it’s out as RC2 – and looks great with the Chromifox Extreme Carbon theme).

Can you burn firefox/opera favourties and add them to the browsers again later?

Posted on November 20th, 2009 by admin

I have to delete my windows and reinstall it.But I would like to keep my favourties in firefox and opera. Can I just burn them on a cd somehow and put them into the browsers again later?

For firefox, yes. I’m not so sure about Opera.
Anyways, just go to Bookmarks > Organize Bookmarks
Then, click on Import and Backup… and click Backup

Save the file then burn it to a CD. Later, you can import the bookmarks into firefox again.

Hope that helps! :)

How do I get the layout on my website to work in all browsers?

Posted on November 17th, 2009 by admin

Hey everyone. So my website layout header works and shows up fine in Internet Explorer, but you can’t see it in Mozilla Firefox. I’m not sure about other internet browsers. How do I get it to show on all internet browsers? All help is appreciated. Oh, my website is http://munchiies.co.uk if you want to try and see if the layout shows up for you.

Your #header style in correct and works fine on its own. It must be something else conflicting. Oh, and it doesn’t work in IE8 either which is css2.1 compatible.

Hint – Make sure you build your sites using a CSS2.1 compatible browser first, then go back and put in your fixes for older versions of IE.
