Teaching Abroad: If you know any foreign language, say Chinese and you speak English, you can get a TEFL job and teach English to Chinese children. Or if you speak Korean and English, you could live in Korea and teach English. You get the idea. To reside abroad and teach English to those who want to learn makes for a very gratifying lifestyle. One desirable feature of a job like this one is getting to experience a culture that is not your own; you also get paid. To teach English as a foreign language, the ability to speak the language of the country in which you will teach is not always required.

Teaching at Home: You don’t have to travel to a foreign country to get a TEFL job. Both working for the government and staying at home teaching immigrants here in the United States are viable TEFL paths. For example, every year a group of immigrants in the United States applies and works towards getting certified for citizenship. Being able to speak English would allow them to assimilate easily, and also have better opportunities made available to them. You can teach those immigrants the English skills they required to move ahead in life by doing TEFL job right from home.
