cuztomizing the very top of IE browser with your own words?

Posted on October 31st, 2009 by admin

I was at my friend’s house and on her IE browser (to the left of the minimize& ex button…& where mine says "Yahoo! Answers – - Windows Internet Explorer)

she customized it to say "Katherine Rules"

How did she do this?

The method using gpedit.msc won’t work for you if you have Windows 98 or Windows XP Home.

But this will:

1. Open Notepad. Copy the text BETWEEN the dotted lines below and paste into Notepad.
……………………………………………
REGEDIT4

[HKEY_CURRENT_USER\Software\
Microsoft\Internet Explorer\Main]
"Window Title"="Text"
………………………………………………
2. The text that is between the brackets (from [HKEY... to ...\Main]) must be on a single line, so position the cursor in front of Microsoft and press BACKSPACE.
3. Change Text to whatever you want it to read
4. Save the file to your My Documents folder. Save it as "newtitle.reg" (Be sure to use the quotes to prevent Notepad from adding .txt to the end of the file name.)
5. Open My Documents and double-click on newtitle.reg. Click Yes on the first dialog box that comes up and OK on the second one.
6. Open Internet Explorer. (If it’s already open, close it first.)

You should now see your personalized text in the title bar.

How can I control MS Browser by using software?

Posted on October 31st, 2009 by admin

What I want to do is run a program that goes to a site, enters an area on that site, and does multiple searches, saving the results to a text file.

I need to make sure the searches complete correctly, I need to know if the resultant records exceed 200 (the file is then truncated), I need to be able to capture errors and process them (perhaps not in real time – correcting the errors, but to be aware that the errors occured so that I can work around them later).

So is there software out there that can help me? I used to use White Knight on a Mac and it worked great, but alas it was only for dialup, I also used Hyperlink but it too didn’t make the leap to the web.

It would be nice if there was existing programs so I didn’t need to start a new career to solve this problem.

Thank you for your help and suggestions.

I´ve been using an MFC based sample program and twisting it to suit my needs. You could do the same without much effort.

//this code excerpt also demonstrates try/catch exception handling
#include <afxinet.h>
//assumes server, port, and URL names have been initialized
CInternetSession session("My Session");
CHttpConnection* pServer = NULL;
CHttpFile* pFile = NULL;
try
{
CString strServerName;
INTERNET_PORT nPort;

pServer = session.GetHttpConnection(strServerName, nPort);
pFile = pServer->OpenRequest(CHttpConnection::HTTP_VERB_GET, strObject);
pFile->AddRequestHeaders(szHeaders);
pFile->SendRequest();
pFile->QueryInfoStatusCode(dwRet);

if (dwRet == HTTP_STATUS_OK)
{
UINT nRead = pFile->Read(szBuff, 1023);
while (nRead > 0)
{
//read file…
}
}
delete pFile;
delete pServer;
}
catch (CInternetException* pEx)
{
//catch errors from WinInet
}
session.Close();

How do you program a web browser?

Posted on October 31st, 2009 by admin

How would you go about making your own web browser? What kind of code? How do you host it?

Maybe giving it special features? Showy looking animations? A function like on Vista where you can look at all the open web pages and choose one?

Instead of programming a browser you can use the core of, let say, Firefox and let it do all the HTTP and so on and create a fancy interface in .Net or Java.
You can write a fancy Adobe Air application that will be able to get some nice UI out.
I would go with .Net and the IE and start from there to make the fancy graphics and UI come to life.

What would cause my browsers to shut down, on certain webpages?

Posted on October 31st, 2009 by admin

On BOTH my Internet Explorer AND Firefox browsers, when I go to certain websites & attempt to log-in, the browser will just shut down. It’s been doing this a few days now. I’ve done a virus scan (there had been some malware found, but quarantined). I’ve done disk cleanup & cleanup of the browser’s themselves. So what could be causing this & how can I make it stop? Thank you!

My IE keeps generating multiple pop up IE browser whenever I open a particular site! Details below?

Posted on October 29th, 2009 by admin

Well, here are the details. I open up a social networking site and after like 5 minutes or so, it starts generating multiple pop up windows, which eventually stalls my machine. I don’t have an anti virus installed on to the system. This random generation just happens only when I open that particular site. Please help. I suppose it’s adware. But suggestions and solutions are welcome.

I’d run a scan with Malwarebytes first, and then get an anti-virus like Avast or Avira, because you should not go unprotected. All can be had for free at download.com.
